Rush Street Restaurant Review

Finally all those Sony D-Girls and Boys have a place to hang and chat after being verbally bludgeoned by their bosses. Rush Street Restaurant has recently opened in the ever expanding Culver City downtown area. It’s sort of a quasi all-in-one: sidewalk cafe, lounge, and a hip upstairs outside patio; it’s almost like three venues in one. Upstairs is particularly private – there’s a sultry lounge (with the outdoor area just adjacent) that can become VIP at any given moment. Also upstairs – and it seems a little out of place – is a small room with a stripper pole, though I have yet to see it put to good use. The space is cavernous - it runs close to 6,000 square feet with ceilings up to 30 feet high. Prices run on the low side - around $12 for apps and $20 for entrees. (My favorite so far: the tataki nachos - seared ahi and avocado on wonton chips). What is a little pricey are their signature cocktails, which will set you back more than the price of appetizers ($14 on average). The best is the pear flower martini - and despite its slightly frou frou name, I saw many a macho man downing these potent concoctions. Service still has its glitches – there seems to be a ton of staff and many are new and not so hip to the menu – but there are two ladies who really stand out: Mary, the sultry blonde tattooed waitress who caters to your every whim with a great attitude; and Erica, a dark hair beauty who works both upstairs and down. I hate the word ‘mixologist’ – it sounds so clinical; suffice to say, this lady will size you up and give you the exact libation you need. Whether it’s a Wednesday or a Saturday, Rush Street has so far been jammed to the gills every night. Recently they had a Beatles karaoke night with only songs by the Fab Four. It was a big hit - so much so, guess who showed up? Those lovely boys from Entourage. If those guys are hanging here, Rush Street has definitely arrived.
