Immortal Technique The Third World

To my suburban grown pallid ears, Immortal Technique is like a much-needed dose of street medicine and his beatmeister, DJ Green Lantern, is like the spoon full of sugar aiding to help it all go down. On The 3rd World, Tech’s grit-blasted, fed-up voice lambastes the racist elitists that occupy the greedy corporate world. This is one of hip hop’s stalwart artists who has refused to alter his flow and go with a major label (no matter they offer). But regardless of that business, he steps up his time-honored message with the added benefit of a much tighter production quality than seen in his past work. It’s been five years since his last album, Revolutionary Vol 2, and the status quo has boiled his blood to a flash point. He aims his raging mouth inferno at the vast differences between 1st and 3rd world life, all the while not leaving out the clear contrasts between poor and rich within our own country. My best experience comparison for listening to this album is that it’s like plucking your rogue nose hairs…and by no means is this a bad thing. Sometimes it just needs to be done, and the pain that is derived is somehow pleasing in a strange way. To add depth to those of you who are unacquainted, Immortal Technique sounds like an angry Nas who graduated summa cum laude from KRS-One University. The 3rd World may be a little too heavy for the clubs or date night but if you want to get your knowledge, Immortal Technique will gladly take you to school and bark at you to do your homework.-Christian Patterson
Good For: Rush Limbaugh and Don Imus bashing, pissing in the cereal of rich folk, looking tuff on the A Train, backyard boxing with Kimbo Slice. Bad For: Sipping Welch’s grape juice while watching Larry King, mini van road trips with Pat Buchanan, Grey Poupon commercials, fly fishing with Gramps, cotillion class.
