And so it is that everything old is new again. With their almost complete knock off of the Jesus and Mary Chain sound, which in itself was a knock off of earlier surf-garage rock, the Stilts have captured the “I’m about to fall asleep while rocking” vocals but have veered closer to the original surf roots and cut out the feedback. A damn good album from start to finish, I was a little irked to hear it playing in Urban Outfitters the other day, but so it goes. If you’re someone who gets easily upset by new bands sounding like older bands, say Interpol’s comparison to Joy Division, then avoid this record like a rabid lemur. But if you’re someone who can put that behind you and enjoy music for music’s sake, then play this one loud.
Good For: Surfing with a cocktail, dirty warehouse parties, people who don’t like showers, scoring a vial of Vicadin. Bad For: Purists.
